Using a series of dramatic monologues, this play listens to the interior thoughts of a variety of people as they encounter the sacraments. What does a father think about at the time of his daughter's baptism? What thoughts go through a pastor's mind as she celebrates the meal? What does an old man think as he kneels before the altar, late in his life?
Using the traditional liturgy, this service mixes in words of introduction and words of Luther about each part of the worship service. For instance, the narrator says, "While Lutherans today may not attend private confession, this was a practice of the church with which Luther found little fault. About confession Luther wrote….” Then another reader reads a quote from Luther about confession. There are quotes for music, communion, the Word, the sermon and the dismissal into our everyday lives. This service teaches about Luther but also teaches us about our liturgy. ![]()
This play is a series of three encounters between Marcus (a Roman soldier), Joseph (a devote Jew who comes to believe the Easter story), and David (a Jew who cannot believe). The first is titled “Have you Heard?” and takes place after reports of the resurrection. The second is titled “You Can't Be Taking This Seriously?” and takes place after the accounts of the ascension. The final is titled “Do You Hear What I Hear?” and takes place at the Pentecost event. This worship series is intended to teach the connection between all three events. When it was first performed all three individual plays were presented on Pentecost with lessons and music between.
This is a speech choir play revolving around the story of the great flood but bringing in scenarios of contemporary life. How are we called to work to save creation? This play is difficult to describe but easy to perform and has been wonderfully received.
